Milwaukee – Beer culture, history and a convivial atmosphere by the water
Travelling along the western shore of Lake Michigan, you’ll reach Milwaukee, a city that may be less well-known than its larger neighbour, Chicago, but which exudes all the more charm. Milwaukee once grew to become one of America’s most important beer cities, a tradition that lives on today in its many craft breweries, cosy pubs and lively terraces. The city effortlessly combines its rich industrial past with a modern and relaxed atmosphere.
Explore the charming Historic Third Ward, where former warehouses have made way for boutiques, art galleries and cosy restaurants. The bustling Canal Park forms the heart of the city. Not far from Marquette lies Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, one of the most spectacular nature reserves in the Great Lakes region. The colourful sandstone cliffs rise dozens of metres above Lake Superior and are best admired during a boat trip or kayaking adventure.

Detroit
Detroit is the surprising finale to this road trip. Detroit also made music history as the birthplace of the legendary Motown label, where artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Supremes launched their careers.
Today, Detroit has reinvented itself. Old industrial buildings have been given a new lease of life as trendy restaurants, breweries and art galleries, whilst colourful street art and creative neighbourhoods give the city a fresh new look.
