Puerto Rico

Discover Puerto Rico - where tropical nature meets vibrant culture

Puerto Rico is a destination that effortlessly brings together different worlds. The island combines the vibrancy of Latin America with a subtle American influence, creating a unique dynamic you won't find anywhere else in the Caribbean. In San Juan, you stroll past colourful colonial facades and centuries-old forts, while moments later in the rainforest of El Yunque you are surrounded by lush greenery and babbling waterfalls. The atmosphere is warm and energetic, with music, gastronomy and history constantly flowing together.

What makes Puerto Rico truly special is the variety within a relatively short distance. From surf beaches on the west coast to quiet, almost untouched islands like Vieques and Culebra, each region has its own character and rhythm. Add world-famous rum culture, impressive natural phenomena like luminous bays and a strong local identity, and you get a destination that continues to surprise. Puerto Rico feels at once familiar and exotic, vibrant and relaxed.

Where tropical life and
urban energy come together.

San Juan is the historical and cultural heart of Puerto Rico, where past and present blend elegantly. In Old San Juan, walk through narrow cobbled streets surrounded by pastel-coloured buildings and charming balconies. The impressive El Morro and San Cristóbal forts bear witness to a rich colonial past while offering panoramic ocean views. Here you can feel the history without it becoming heavy or static.

Puerto Rico is best discovered by exploring its different regions, each with its own atmosphere and landscape. In the north you will find the vibrant capital and wide beaches, while the central mountain area exudes tranquillity and authenticity with small villages and panoramic views. The south feels drier and sunnier, with a more relaxed pace and fewer tourist crowds. This variation makes every move on the island surprising.

The west coast is known for its laidback atmosphere and beautiful sunsets. Here lies Rincon, a draw for surfers and travellers who like a more relaxed vibe. To the east, in turn, you'll discover tropical rainforests and gateways to smaller islands. This regional diversity makes Puerto Rico feel like multiple destinations in one trip.

Puerto Rico is inextricably linked with rum, and nowhere is this more evident than at the iconic Bacardi distillery. Just outside San Juan, you will discover how this world-famous drink is produced, from the fermentation process to maturation in oak barrels. A visit to the distillery is not only informative, but also a stylish experience that focuses on craftsmanship and tradition. The architecture and surroundings give it an almost tropical-resort feel.

The island is also among the few places in the world where you can experience bioluminescence in its purest form. In bays like Mosquito Bay on Vieques, the water lights up with every movement, thanks to microscopic organisms that respond to disturbance. An evening kayak trip through this mysterious landscape feels almost surreal, like paddling through a starry sky. It is a natural phenomenon that is difficult to describe and, above all, must be experienced intensely.

The west coast of Puerto Rico, with Rincon being the most famous spot, is a paradise for surfers and lovers of a relaxed coastal atmosphere. The waves here are among the best in the Caribbean, attracting beginners and experienced surfers alike. But even without surfing plans, this region is worthwhile, thanks to its wide beaches and laid-back ambience. Life seems to go just a little slower here.

For those looking for tranquillity and unspoilt nature, Vieques and Culebra are an absolute bonus within a trip to Puerto Rico. Located a short distance from the main island, these smaller islands feel like a completely different world. No big resorts or busy boulevards here, but quiet beaches, wild nature and an authentic island experience. Flamenco Beach on Culebra is often cited as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and you'll notice this immediately, while Vieques in turn offers a unique combination of nature and character, with wild horses roaming free and hidden beaches that you often have to yourself. The pace here is slow, which is exactly the charm, providing the perfect contrast to the vibrancy of the main island and completing your trip.
